Just over an hour to go before starting 2nd Dan week. Its been a few years now since last grading so the little butterflies are there just like many people get before grades but thats a good and natural thing. Anyone thats around in any of my group classes this week will get an opportunity to contribute.
Best of luck to my fellow graders Louise, Sinead and Keith.

Got a good start today in the 1pm class with Sinead and myself supported by Eddie and the class. Was a tough full on hour but we managed to get in 500 punches, 500 kicks and 50 each of the squats, press ups, burpees and v sit ups and to round it all off Sinead, Eddie and myself did a hi vis run. I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow when it has to be done all over again.

Well I must say there is a great buzz in the club this week. The guys are getting stuck in and it is a pleasure to be apart of it. Being able to train with these all this week will be great to watch for anybody who will be in the classes with them. To be able to be apart of it for me is a great privilege and I am so looking forward to the rest of the week. Not as much as Sinead, Stephen, Keith and LouLou Best of luck to the rest of the week guys!

A few moans and groans getting going today as Rob brought us through 500 punches, 500 kicks and 50 each of press ups, squats, v sit ups and burpees. It was a big group class today so everyone got to share in the pain and to wrap it all up the next hour was spent doing 3 min rounds of sparring. Thanks to everyone for their words of encouragement and help. Tomorrow will be hard but we just have to keep going.

So day three over yesterday. Eddie spared the one o'clock class from the drills and Sinead and myself plugged away in the corner-It great having others doing the same thing as you to keep the motivation going. We got another chunk done so almost 3/4 of the way there. Sinead had a great idea to go to Phoenix Park for the run which was ideal as I was hungry and on the lookout for some deer (sorry Bambi) none to be had though so a protein bar had to do and, as I said to Eddie, it was like having a Wonka bar. Ran through the set a few times and that was about it for the day. The day before I overdid it a bit and was tired in the evening and didn't get much accompolished so learnt my lesson and stopped satisfied I got a good session in.
Today will be tough but the finish line is in sight.

Due to other committments my aim was to get everything done by Thursday night and just about managed to achieve that. Rob put us through our paces in the 10 de 1 class with different techniques to those that we did on Tues I loved the back hand strike switch technique especially. The class was followed by getting in 12 rounds of sparring. Had a bit left to do later that evening and thankfully two students, Cathal and Keith helped me get to the end. Very tired Thursday night but had Friday then to drill the combo for demonstration today which hopefully will cap off a challenging week. Many thanks to everyone to helped us on the way either by jumping in or giving their support. Fingers crossed for later.

As you can see from Rob's posts all went well on Saturday with the demonstration of a 22 strike combination. If you haven't already done so, check out the photos and videos which Rob has posted on the general board. It is interesting that there is such a variety in the combos from all four of us which is one of the benefits of training at MAI in that you get such a wide variety of styles.
I would like to say thank you to MAI for the opportunity to grade, thankyou to Rob, Declan and Derek for giving up their time for the 2nd Dan grade and congrats to my fellow graders Louise, Keith and Sinead. Lastly thank you to all at MAI for jumping in or offering your encouragement during the week.
Back to business now and time to return the favour and help you get another belt in a few weeks.
