I'm not one for making excuses but I have had a flu for the last week (didn't miss one class and have still being doing some light training)and with this in mind have been lazy with my blog. Anyway, my eldest daughter turned 18 this week and I am using this as a spur (along with my healed up knee) to get stuck into my own training. So from Saturday I will be cranking up the sweat levels both in my own sessions and in my classes. Be there or be sane lol

Started serious training again on Saturday and feels good but no sign of any weight shifting yet. It will lol. Have also started to work a bit more on my stretching and hopefully this time will have the patience to stick with it. I have always had a love/hate relationship with stretching so only time will tell. Kawabunga

So one week after recommencing hard training I have been met with a common problem which I should have anticipated. I have been pounding the punchbags a lot and erm yeah I've gained weight much to my consternation lol. Time for a switch to lighter power rounds and more skipping and non contact cardio work I guess. Will keep you informed. Declan

Hi Declan
Is that a better way to loose weight, skipping and non contact cardio? I normally throw in a few rounds of bagwork with my cardio but i wasn't aware that it will put on the pounds?
Should i leave the pounding on the bag as much and consentrate on more shadow boxing and skipping, etc...
PS Hope it all going well for you now

I find when I hit the bag hard it has the same effect as weight lifting to a degreee i.e. it makes me bigger. While this is not a bad thing for some I personally am trying to protect my knees by keeping my weight down so all logic points to more cardio and less resistance. Skipping rocks (boxers have used it for decades for weight control) and shadow boxing or cardio kickboxing have the same effect while also improving timing and co-ordination. Time will tell.
