That's great news on getting the fight. Best of luck for the training camp and the fight itself. Must have a look into getting over to Birmingham for this one.

All the best with your training at Jackson's Rob. 3 weeks is intensive but it will all be worth it.

Howdy all - here's how the fight went from my point of view: Again for my second time fighting in Birmingham, the crowd were great support to me. I got a lot more cheers than I expected from my entrance and throughout the fight as well as afterwards. A part of me expects a bit of animosity towards the Irish when I'm fighting a UK fighter but I've been wrong twice and I really appreciated all the support I received. Everything went to plan right from the start. I know that most people (not you guys of course) expected me to be dominated by my opponents standup due to his undefeated amateur record as well as his 10-1 pro record. This wasn't the case at all and I was not surprised of course. I used plenty of techniques and kicks and landed some good shots. I dropped him with a punch and followed up with some shots on the ground - unlucky for me I didn't land a clean shot on the ground to finish the fight but it was very close. I think his fitness helped him to recover. I again dominated with more stuff. He did look very frustrated throughout. Looking back at it now I do think I was a bit over anxious and I probably should have relaxed and backed off a bit more to pick my shots. Ah well, hindsight and all that. I did make a small mistake and let him get double underhooks. I thought I was okay but he managed to take me down and I landed in a weird slow motion way with my legs kind of tucked underneath me which enabled him to land in mount. He immediately threw as many punches at me as he could and unlike my ground and pound on him earlier, it felt like every one of his shots landed. I went through a couple of escapes and kept moving so that the ref wouldn't stop it. We were right by the cage wall so certain stuff didn't work and I turned over and tried to escape out the back door. He immediately stuck in a rear naked choke. It was on straight away. Normally you have a little bit of time to defend. I tapped because I felt half conscious. That was it. I was dissappointed to find out that there was only 5 seconds left as I would have loved to have gone to the second round but I don't think that knowledge could have saved the situation. I'm a fighter and I'm a winner. I will never be happy losing. I did think I had the fight won. I did fight well up to the end but I did make mistakes and I can learn from them and continue to improve. Even though my opponent won, I know that there is no way he could be happy with the win. My last fight was 1 year ago. I had 3 weeks of training right after my 4 week honeymoon to get ready for this fight. I had no sponsors, no coach and no manager for this fight. I'm not telling you all this to use as an excuse. There is no excuse in my mind. I should have won. What's next for me? I don't know yet. I have a bit of thinking and a bit of planning to do. I will of course keep you informed and I will be asking for your opinions too. Thank you to Stephen Large for being a great cornerman and helper. It was an honour to have Tom Watson help me warm up and be in my corner. Thank you to Tanya, Joe, Eddie, Dave, Gavin and Rob for coming all the way over to cheer me on. Thanks also to my missus - I could hear Louise very clearly screaming for me while I was fighting in the cage ha ha ha I'm back teaching as normal tomorrow so I'll try not to be too sulky

Comisserations on the loss but these things happen and you will be stronger for it. We are all proud of you for having the cojones to get in the cage

Hi Rob,
Just wanted to echo and agreed with what Declan said. I had recorded it on SYFY and was gutted they did not show it. Every great fighter loses but you will come back stronger and more knowledgeable again.
Keep your head held high as you did all MAI and Irish MMA proud.
Best wishes Phillip
