Howdy peeps - I was just asked about fighting a specific opponent at the next BAMMA which is on 9th February 2011 and I accepted. I have to wait until that opponent accepts before I can announce it. Hopefully he does as it will be a cracking show. Nate 'The Great' Marquardt is fighting in the main event.

a very nice spinning hook kick knock out at the ufc over the weekend. I landed the same kick in my last fight but unfortunately I didn't get the same result

I'm pushing hard for a fight in march and I'm off to New Mexico for 4 weeks in a weeks time. It's my third time training at Jacksons MMA and I can hear you all saying 'it's great experience' and it is but it's also very bloody hard to up and leave home and put my body through the tough training. Not to mention the expense of paying for the trip and the training and losing 4 weeks wages. Therefore, I still need a couple of sponsors. Druid's Glen or Druid cider should sponsor me If anyone knows of anyone who may be interested in sponsoring Ireland's coolest and best looking MMA fighter please tell them that he's not available and send them my way

I'm off to BAMMA 9 this Friday. I'm not fighting but I will be helping out. I was involved in 4 weeks of Tom 'Kong' Watsons training camp as he has gotten ready to defend his middleweight title against Jack Marshman 10-0. Also, another Jacksons mma fighter called Jake Murphy (lightweight) will be taking on David Round - they've had a war of words on twitter which was quite entertaining. I did have the possibility of fighting but didn't get matched unfortunately - that's why I went to New Mexico for 4 weeks to prepare - that's the way the fight game goes but it definitely wasn't wasted training as I could be up very soon. This will be the third fight of Tom's that I will have been involved with. It's an honour and a great experience for me each time as I learn plenty. I've had 5 pro fights myself but just being in that atmosphere backstage helps me for my future fights. I doubt I'll be in Tom's corner because he will have 3 coaches there but I definitely will be involved and helping out as much as I can behind the scenes. I probably won't get to see many/any fights though. I will be involved with the weight cut on Friday so I could quite possibly be sitting next to him in the sauna sweating my butt off! I also plan on getting some training in. A pro boxer called Mark Atkins wants me to teach him some of my snakey Druid Ju-Jitsu and I hope to do some boxing with him also. When am I fighting next I hear you ask. The answer to that is more than likely it will be June at Made4TheCage. This is a new show which has grown very fast. Jeff Monson and Darren Towler is the main fight for the heavyweight title. Dale Percival runs this show and he was my second mma opponent! He contacted me and asked if I would be interested and I said definitely. It's funny how things work out and it's funny the relationships that are made in this sport. So, we'll see who I get matched up with and I'll keep you posted. Even though I'm not fighting this weekend I bet I'm still going to come back wrecked from all the running around and excitement. Have a good one everyone.

what a weekend.
I arrived on the red eye early flight on Friday morning and proceeded to meet up with Tom Watson, Mark Atkins (the boxer), Jake Murphy and Coach Eric O'Keefe. We went to the gym and I got some good cardio done while Jake and Tom got their pre weigh-in sweat on. Then we got into the sauna to cut the last of their weight. Then it was off to the official Bamma weigh ins. They both made weight easy. Tom looked a lot taller than his opponent and I'm not sure if I spotted a moment of weakness in Jack Marshman during the stand off. Tom has a mean stare down. After the weigh ins they rehydrated with drinks and iv's. I'm not really into using a drip but that's probably because I hate needles! We then went for food and Nandos did well out of us. A quick rest and then another restaurant. They put away a serious amount of grub.
The next day myself and Mark Atkins went to the gym and I did 4 x 5 min rounds of boxing on the pads with him. He knows what he's doing when it comes to boxing. He's 3-0 as a pro and has been boxing for about 11 years. He tweaked a few things for me. After that we did some ju-jitsu and I returned the favour by showing him some of my sneaky grappling. We then met up with the lads for lunch and had a quick rest.
I met up with them around 7 and went to the arena. I didn't get to see any fights really because I was in the warm up area with Tom and Jake. The atmosphere was good and we had a few laughs. Coach Alan Keddle, fighter Stuart Rikman and UFC fighter John Maguire were there too and a few others also. Jake was up first against David Round. David Round was definitely the more hyped up of the too and motioned that he was going to put Jake to sleep. Jake remained calm. His entrance music was a Johnny Cash number which suited him. Round immediately threw a front kick and obviously pissed him off because Jake just shot in and took him down. It was all downhill for Round from there. Jake's wrestling is top notch and he controlled Round with ease on the ground. He used plenty of ground and pound and made the scrambles look very one sided. It went to round 2 and for some reason David Round tried to take Jake down. Jake worked well again on the ground and eventually tapped Round out with a rear naked choke. It was a very one sided fight.
I helped Tom stretch and he was the calmest and most confident I've ever seen him pre-fight. I walked out with him holding his middleweight belt up with Jake Murphy. The crowd at the walk way were all Marshman supporters and they were cheering loudly and trying to intimidate us. I was just waiting to get a dig in the back of the head from one of them! It was a bit agro. Tom's music was Michael Buble's 'feeling good' and as usual he had the guerilla mask on.
The fight started with Tom throwing loads of kicks. I got worried for a second thinking he might burn himself out and be a bit over excited but he settled and kept pressing forward and used good boxing and counter punching as well as leg kicks. Marshman kept backing up which is probably unusual for him. Tom did out box him but Marshman was dangerous with a couple of exchanges. The leg kicks worked well for Watson and before ya knew it Marshmans leg looked sore. I thought it was going to go the same way as the Watson v's Ninja fight. In round 2 Tom continued to work his boxing and leg kicks and then out of nowhere he throw a step through spinning elbow which immediately dropped Marshman. It probably could have been all over right there. Tom thought about the guillotine but instead turned him over and landed vicious elbows in ground and pound from side control. The ref stepped in and that was it. Marshmans face was very swollen. He was gracious in defeat and I know he will go along way - he is now 10-1 - he's only 22 and he has a hell of a lot of supporters. In the after fight speech Tom said he was intimidated by all the Marshman fans.
I went back to the warm up room to meet up with them and obviously Tom had a lot of interviews to give. When he got back they had to give him a stitch above his eye and ice his leg and swollen feet. We then went back to Tom's room for a bit and his Aunty Mags and his mam were both delighted with him. It was already 2am this stage due to the clocks going forward. I had gotten a vip pass to go to the official after party and they headed off to that but I skidaddled back to my hotel because I had to be up in a couple of hours for an early flight home. I know what you're thinking - boring bobby - but everyone would have been sloppy drunk at that stage anyway and I felt I had done what I had come there to do.
It was a good show - quieter that previous bamma's but everyone said all the fights were good. Even though I didn't fight, it still took a lot out of me. I got some good motivation to use in training this week though. I hope you all enjoyed the weather at the weekend. Talk to you during the week.
