Thanks a lot Chris. Great to hear that at least a couple of people are interested Welcome to the club. It's Sunday 3rd March 2013 and I've 2 weeks left until my fight. Last week was killer training. I got through 16 training sessions. I won't bore you with the details but they consisted of lots of cardio training, strength training as well as sparring and grappling. I'm worn out. That is a good thing. I've one last tough week ahead of me this week and then I pretty much just coast the last week and concentrate on losing the last of my weight. My weight is good at the moment. I'm less than 10 pounds off the mark. At this stage I wouldn't want to be too much closer to my fight weight as it makes me more susceptible to injury plus when I rehydrate after weigh-in I want to be able to gain as much weight as possible before the fight. Everyone keeps asking me about my opponent and about my fight. Even at 2 weeks to go I don't think about either much. My sole focus is on training and eating right. I'm kept very busy teaching and working too. I simply live my life in between all the training and I don't work myself up or dwell on the event much - there'll be plenty of time for that much closer to the fight. Some fighters put their lives on hold and can think of nothing else - I try to do the reverse and that works for me. Because of the tiredness factor and the dieting factor, I do have a bit less patience than normal. I'm always aware of this when training for a fight so I manage the 'crankiness' as best as possible. Hopefully most of you haven't even noticed. Again, some fighters are a disaster to be around during fight camp so I'm definitely not the worst. Thanks a million to Declan Comerford who helped me out with some sponsorship for my fight. I really appreciate it and it will definitely help as I lose money everytime I take a fight. Anyone interested in helping me with sponsorship and anyone going to my fight, please purchase my fight t-shirt at the club or here: www.robertdevane.com/Thanks for reading and I'll let you guys know how the last 2 weeks of preparation are going. See you at the clubs.

Nearly there now Rob keep up the good work over the next two weeks. Think I'll have to acquire a new Druid t shirt the others are well worn at this stage.

Another tough week completed. I do wonder if my training so far has been the toughest ever. My body and mind do think that so that's a good thing. I'm into the final run this week. Keeping the cardio and strength training going today, tomorrow and Wednesday but no grappling or sparring - just in case! Murphy's law and all that. You might have seen Paul Mc at the clubs videoing my training recently - he's putting together a short documentary so you guys will be able to see first hand what I'm putting my body and mind through No training Thursday. Weigh in Friday and fight Saturday evening. Yes, people haven't sussed it yet but I'm the main event fight. There's extra pressure with that so I'm not thinking about that too much - just that I'll probably be on late and it could be 11pm. At the moment it's all about keeping my fitness and getting down the last of the weight - I'm eating egg whites and Quinoa as I write this - yum yum - NOT! Catch yaz during the week. p.s. delighted for the MAI 8 lads who gave the mma league a good go, Fair play fellas. You represented great

I normally don't wish you luck in your fights because I don't believe you need it. I will this time. Best wishes and best of luck for this weekend. Go do what you need to do and make people appreciate and recognise your skill and ability.

I’m off in the morning over to Newcastle to weigh in. All the hard training is done. Today was a rest day and if I’ve done my diet right I won’t have to get on the exercise bike. I’ll know in the morning. It’s very hard to get it spot on but I’ll definitely only be within a couple of pounds. I’m just hungry now and looking forward to all the cheat meals after the fight! I have trained really, really hard for this fight and thank you to everyone who was a part of my training. I do feel very confident. Not cocky because in this sport of MMA, anything can happen. It’s been a long training camp and a tough start to my year, especially since taking over the running of MAI D15. I’m looking forward to having a bit of breathing space again but first I’ve got to take care of business in the cage It’s a very cool feeling being Irish and fighting abroad on St. Patrick’s weekend. I’ll write up a report about the fight after I get back home. Quite a few people have asked me if it’s on TV. It’s not but stayed tuned to facebook and twitter. We’ll get the dvd of the show too when it’s ready plus Paul Mc is videoing the behind the scenes and Dave Fogarty will be taking pictures. Thanks again to everyone for the support and for your interest.

Great to see the training blog for the fight, you might not realise but it is great to read up on the training that all the instructors themselves do - be it for a fight or otherwise. Yourself and Declan in particular are very good about writing this up on the forum and it makes me realise how lazy I am!!!! Anyway once again best of luck tomorrow night, in your previous fights on Youtube Louise can clearly be heard above everyone else shouting "COOOMMMMEEEE OOOONNNN ROOOOOBBBBBB!!!!" so I am sure you will be well supported. BTW-Where are the rest of the members wishing you luck on this thread - there should be a few hundred replies at this stage......................... Come on guys!!!!!

agreed - the training blogs are v v interesting and to see all the work that is being done is v inspirational - Best of luck to Rob this weekend, I'm know you'll do great, everyone is behind you and hoping you'll achieve what you deserve. I heard those voices on You Tube too but assumed it was Eddie. His voice must have broken - I hadn't noticed! To everyone heading over have a great trip and make loads of noise!

Hey Rob, best wishes for the fight. I'm sure you won't need it though. And if anyone has to get any luck this (Paddys) weekend it has to be a Druid. Can't wait to see the doc too when it's finished. Your blog has been great. You've certainly put in a huge amount of physical and digital work so it will def pay off. See you when you get back.

Well I would like to start by saying very well done to Robert on his victory at the weekend. He fought extremely well and I was so happy for him. He represented MAI so well over there as well as himself. We got to the event at around 5 and the event began at 6. The card was mainly Ian Freeman's students against people from other clubs from around England. Rob's fight was last on the card and he was also the Main Event. No pressure so! It was a long wait but the fights were ending quick due to arm bars, guillotines, triangles and I think two fights went the distance. We expected Rob to fight at around 11pm but by the time the second last fight came it was 9pm! MAI had seats just beside where the fighters walked out and we were there from start to finish. The Main Event was then next up. We all got our seats and had our Irish flags, hats and face paint at the ready. In a hall full to the brim we were about to out shout the lot of them. Rob's opponent was first out coming out in a Russian hat and he thought he was original coming out in something extravagant like that, then it was Rob's turn to come out. The crowd was quiet but then the the start of the Rocky Road to Dublin started. Rob was in the zone with his big green hat, green shorts and 'Druid' t'shirt. The place erupted. Rocky Road to Dublin got everyone up and cheering for Rob. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing. People banging their feet, clapping their hands and cheering his name. Rob's corner man, Ian Freeman, even got pumped dancing his way around the cage. We were off our seats shouting for Robbie D! A quick stare down and then he was raring to go. The referee sent them back to their corners and he said FIGHT! The fight started with the two trading a jab each and then it was then straight into the clinch. they made their way to the floor where nothing really happened except Rob being held by his arms and not being able to throw anything. After thirty seconds the referee stood the two back up. From there Rob was on a mission, he backed Khamshat, Rob's opponent, up against the cage and they made their way to the floor, with Rob ending up in side control. You could hear Ian shout ''Get on Top''! Rob got in full mount and start unleashing LETHAL elbows and they were definitely being heard around the hall! From there Rob was in the ascendency and his shots were flowing. After a lot of wiggling and eating a lot of elbows, Khamsat was able to stand up again but Rob's radar was on, he hunted him down and again the two traded over and under hooks before Khamsat left his head open, 'Druid' ju-jitsu was then seen! Rob got his guillotine in so tight and from there, there was only going to be one winner. Khamsat taped at around 4 minutes into the first round. The crowd went crazy and started shouting at the top of their voices 'ROB' 'ROB' 'ROB'. He deserved the applause. He fought extremely well and I was so happy for him. He trained his butt off for this fight and got his reward. I was so happy for the crowd to give him such a great reception which he deserved. He is now 4-2 which is amazing for him and he represented MAI so well. After the fight we got pictures with Ian and all of the guys who came over. We then went back to where we were staying and had a great end to what was a fantastic weekend. Well done Rob, a serious inspiration you are to me and I hope everyone reads this now and gets the fire in the bellys like I have right now while I am typing this. I am going to finish up with only one way I can: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYbXV5eMGsMYERRRRRRRROWWWWWWWWW!! WELL DONE ROBERT AND A PERFECT END TO THE BEST PADDY'S DAY I HAVE EVER HAD!! Happy training fellow forumers!

As Eddie said a very well done to Robert on his win he finished the fight in style with the druid guillotine. This was my first time getting to see rob in the cage and what a way to start ha ! all the fights that were on the card were very good and they all ended pretty quick, there was a mix of semi-pro fights and K-1 fights but it was mainly semi-pro, Rob was the only pro fight on the card and he was last to fight.Rob was ment to fight at 11pm but due to all the other fights ending so quickly rob came on sooner than we taught. We were dying to know what music rob was going to walk in to all day but when Rocky road to Dublin came on the place start bouncing all of the Irish supporters had their Irish hats on and were waving flags.everyone was singing along banging their feet the atmosphere in the place was deadly I've never been so exited in my life. the stare down was intense, they both came out traded a jab then straight into the clinch Rob got the takedown and was in guard for a little bit then the ref stood them back up, again a short bit of striking then Rob got the takedown again and landed in sidemount he transitioned into the mount , then unloaded with strikes including some leathal elbows. Khamsat managed to get back to his feet but he was hurting bad. They ended up back in the clinch and at this point Rob had the DRUID guillotine locked on Khamsat tapped, the crowd went mental i was chuffed for Rob and im proud of having Rob as my insrtuctor and proud of being apart of M.A.I

Eddie you’ve a career in sports journalism with that report. I travelled over on Friday with Rob, Louise, Dave and Paul. Flight was supposed to be at 10am but was delayed for over an hour. Once we landed priority was to get the weigh in done and for Rob to refuel. Rob was fighting at 84kg and all went well with the weigh in so we headed straight for food- a late lunch at this stage. After this we just chilled in the accommodation for a while before going out for more food later that night.
On Saturday morning the rest of the gang arrived. Saturday was basically spent waiting for the event. For Rob it was just about conserving energy for the evening he wasn’t due on until around 11pm.
We wandered up to Ian Freeman’s gym which was really impressive and then off for lunch which would be the last thing Rob would eat before the fight. We headed up to the event and the group headed up early to the event and we followed up later. Normally there would be a good bit of time waiting backstage but the fights were flying through. Rob got a great reception from all at Team Machine with everyone bee lining for him to see how he was getting on and wishing him all the best. Rob ran through his warm ups and in no time at all was called. He got the whole place going with his entrance music The Rocky Road to Dublin the noise from behind was electrifying not only from the gang but everyone in the place. Rob always gets a great reception in the UK, Strike and Submit, BAMMA and Machine 3 was no different.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the other fights but cornering with Ian Freeman got ringside view of Rob’s which Eddie has covered. I was absolutely delighted for Rob as he seems to have been training nonstop for a fight for the last year and a half. It hasn’t been easy particularly trying to fit everything in with Rob/Louise taking over D15 and the pressure of representing MAI so ‘leprechaun’ hat off to you. Well done again Rob.
