It's only in the last few years that my name has appeared above the Martial Arts Incorporated Logo. For about 10 years M.A.I. has been run without a direct association to my name e.g. it was simply M.A.I. and now it's Robert Devane's M.A.I. I didn't want people to believe I was going to be able to teach each and every single class and I also didn't want M.A.I. to be all about my identity and to take anything away from the amazing instructors who have helped build the club up to what it is today. The truth be told, I never wanted to be 'The Boss' and originally I had always hoped to run the club with a fellow instructor and business partner. During the recession people became very wary of companies suddenly folding and the decision was made to add my name to the logo in order to increase the accountability of the business. I myself was stung badly when I paid in cash for a full years membership at Total Fitness as a present for Louise. It was the dearest month of training I ever paid for as that company folded without any comeback! It's near impossible to get money back from an anonymous board of directors that don't even reside in the same country as the actual business. We were determined to give our members the extra sense of confidence in knowing exactly who to turn to. I believe so much in M.A.I. and stand over it so much that my name is over the Logo.
Why am I telling you this now? I would hate people to think that it was an egotistical decision to add my name. However, I would be lying if I didn't say that I do get a huge sense of pride and responsibility every time I see my name and logo being worn by our members. It is an honour that people have faith in M.A.I. (and me) and that we get such a level of support. Thank you.
P.s. I personally think the M.A.I. logo looks great on all the new stock and punch bags that has just arrived in last week.
