I was watching UFC that I had taped last night, and it just seemed really boring. Most fights just went to the ground and people were just holding on... Was that a particularily crap event the other night or am I right that UFC, and MMA is just boring after the first while? It's fine to have exciting stand up with good striking, and it's also fine to have good grappling on the ground, with action and submissions (or even attempts).. But the grapplers seem to have learned to block strikes and the strikers seem to have learned to guard against submission, leading to... Nothing. Literally, two people hugging, and a bit of handbags. I haven't seen the last two fights yet, but I don't think I want to at this rate... Any boxing or continuous events coming up?

Maybe it is just me so, but I just find that in a five minute round there seems to be very little actual action. They seem tentative whenever they attempt any strike in stand up, for example. It just doesn't seem that explosive.

I see your point, UFC is defo the best MMA organisation around, but do you not find MMA to be a bit slow moving to watch? It seems that the build up to fights is more exciting than the actual action.
PS. Mike, watched the last fight. Henderson was a bit of a wild striker, wasn't he? I like Anderson Silva as a fighter.

I thought Henderson looked out of gas. He seemed to give it all in the first round then faded.
I get where you are coming from Col. I think part of the problem is that its on too often now (like The Premiership). Also some of the match ups /fighters are'nt up to scratch. Add to this the UFC main guys are in decline, the likes of Hughes, Franklin, Couture has left and most of the Pride guys have been massive disapointments.
But.. There are some deadly possible fights available to them. They just seem to be throwing anything out at the moment to cope with the demand. 83 is shaping up to be a cracker though.

Yeah, it seems to me that they put on loads of events where there's only one really popular fighter there, and lots climbing the ladder, so that they can put huge events on every so often with a main event featuring two of the biggest names. The problem with this format is that most of the 'ladder climbers' seem unprepared, like one of them at the last event said he'd done NO grappling training at all. Either he made a bad judgement, was just lazy, or didn't have the time to cover all his bases. Also, when a fight with two big names happens, it is built up so much that anything short of spectacular will disappoint. Unfortunately, lots of times these fights aren't as spectacular as anticipated. Who's fighting in 83?

Gsp vs Matt Serra for the undisputed ww title. Should be a cracker. Franklin is back again, fighting Travis Lutter. I like Franklin hes not the most technical of fighters (imo) but he is always entertaining and pushes his opponents all the way (bar silva but that guy is on fire at the moment) and Michael Bisping is dropping down to mw.

I recommend MMATKO.com for fight videos, they're always quick to upload and have all the latest from every organization I've heard of. As for UFC/MMA getting boring, for me personally it's not, but I know what you're talking about. In my opinion there are a lot of wrestlers whose gameplan is to lay and pray, just take someone down and hold him there to win a decision because they can't compete in a striking or submission match, but are capable of good takedowns. When a fighter is tentative, I understand what's in their head so I give them a little leeway. I also appreciate how much they must think about, which is why at times the action slows as they assess risk. Not saying you don't, but these are some of the reasons why I personally don't find those sort of occurances as bothersome as some others might.
