Random: Did you like the movie 'CREED'? Every Saturday from 11am to 12 noon on 27th February for 8 weeks, Declan Kidd will get your hands flying with combinations and footwork plus this year he promises to also focus on a lot of abdominal conditioning - sounds great. Full details are here and we are taking names now: www.martialartsinc.com/2016/PUNCHCITYfeb2016.pdf

It is hard for me to choose which course is my favourite to teach but this is a prime candidate. Why? Because it allows me to focus on details that it is difficult to find time for in general kickboxing classes. Shadow boxing as a sparring tool, good solid padwork, Using the footspeed ladder and swinging back to practice footwork and pivots, the classic bobrope drills and so much more. Sharper hands guaranteed.

I love Punch City, it's one of my favourite classes in MAI - always techically tough, a great workout and rarely any burpees! Fabliss. Saturday was the first and it started out with footwork. Easy right? 1, 2, 3 and a 1, 2, 3....any eejit can do this. Light as a feather on the toes, diddly-doo-diddly-dee. All I can say is "people of D7, I apologies for your morning coffee looking like this": I have the grace of a hippo. Who knew feet were so challenging!?!? I use them EVERYDAY! Anyway, then it was on to jabs. Ah the humble jab! The boxing workhorse, it asks for nothing but gives so much. I was partnered with the lovely Shelly who is as fit as a fiddle and, halfway through the 3 mins of jabbing, she was looking tired. Psh! Is she a wuzz or what? Marathons, schmarathons - I can jab for 3 mins. My turn: And we're only 15 mins in here!!! Is this one of those classes (like bootcamp with Edzer) where you're so glad it's over that you forget afterwards that it's actually hell? No, it's ok, it's uncle Declan, he'll be nice to us. OK we're going to do an easy combination it's only 35 moves. Oh he was serious. I'll admit though, it was pretty amazing. Once we got into the swing of it, I felt like without the talent or the toned body. Roll on next week, when I shall be indeed fly like a caterpillar and worry like a wasp or something.....

Well done to the crew and Armstrong for the write up. Don't pat yourself on the back, it's only week 1! That goes for the crew and Armstrong! Haha, roll on the rest of the course!
