Stretching, what stretching drills work best for you.? How often do you stretch. ? For me i stretch everyday,(lightly). (cant be helped with the job), i try to stretch hard two times a week. i warm up with a couple of rnds and stretch box split sitting, i do a couple more rnds and stretch side split 5times left, 5times right, 5 times box. warmup some more and stretch max each side holding for about 30 secs. How do you eat yours. HAPPY EASTER.

Yeah the preparation before you stretch is so important. The best stretching is always at the end of a hard hours training when you have got a real good sweat up and the muscles are not just warm, but on fire! It makes a huge difference. It's too easy to skip your stretching at the end of a hard workout when the legs (and head!) is a bit tired. But it's got to be done. Gotta make hay when the sun shines!
I always try and use different types to vary things, like active, passive ,ballistic, pnf, etc. But the one thats always included in each session is the splits. Can't beat it if you're looking to kick heads!

I'm not exactly the best person to advocate stretching, Mike: "OK, but we gotta stretch first, it's so cold tonight!", Me: "Yeah, you do that, I'm gonna go do 360 hook kicks." True story But as Jamie says can't beat the splits, and I've always felt I got more out of wall stretches and the wishbone stretch.

I thought I caught Derek stretching once. Turned out he was tying his shoelace ;-)

The best stretching is always at the end of a hard hours training when you have got a real good sweat up and the muscles are not just warm, but on fire! Hit the nail on the head. (did you use a- wait for it- hammer fist?... no?... Sorry.) Anyway, what has been most effective for me is doing the macine gun side kick drill and machine gun roundhouse kick drill before box splits, and same for front kicks before side splits. Makes a bigger difference than you'd think. WhenI'm pushing hard I stretch for two minutes, dropping down as far as I can every 30 seconds, it works! I used to stretch first thing in the morning, and it did wonders for my splits, but not the hips, cos I didn't really warm up properly. And as for Derek: Instructor: "Ok, warm up, you've got two minutes." Derek: Looks down. Shakes legs a bit. Waits. Does a fronk kick slow pace... "Done."

As far as I'm concerned you're all mad. There must be some sort of book on tape thing that helps you stretch while you sleep. Doing it while awake seems to border on masochism. Or maybe it's just that my hips and legs seem to be made out of some sort of unbendable material, maybe I should offer them up to science, they'd be of more use. P.S. First post, good to be here

I was just wondering if any of ye would have a good stretch for the backside of your hip. Keith gave me a good one and i've been using it but its still persisting, like a pinch on my left side when i do a drag up round house or side kick, Side kick more so than anything? it relly inhibbits the height of my side kick. Thanks.
