I was never really into halloween but there seems to be more of a fuss about it these days and I have to say that I do actually like getting into the spirit of it and watching a few horror movies. I watched 'Wrong Turn 2' and 'Orphan' last week and both were twisted - not amazing but good in their own way. The other good thing about halloween is that it breaks up the wait until Christmas (I do like Christmas too). Anyone watching any good or classic horrors at the moment?

I love watching horror movies in the lead up to Halloween. I try to buy one or two each year, I'm not sure which ones I'll get this year. I'll be watching A Nightmare Before Christmas tonight, a classic Halloween movie, and it's not just for kids!
This year might be the first year in a long time where I dress up when I go out too. Don't know what I'll go as. My girlfriend's family is coming over from Poland that night too so I won't get to go out til late, but it'll be worth the wait to see the catsuit she'll be wearing! Yum!

Dont be silly Donal theres no way your girlfriend will fit into your catwoman suit that you were wearing last year!!
Yeah i was never into halloween myself - too much chaos and trouble but there is a bit of a buzz about it this time round.. I went to see "zombieland" the other day and it was crazy - it was funny in its own way but only if your into crazy blood thirsty movies!! I thought the orphan was good - weird but good!

Hola!!
Really surprised how much the Halloween tradition has been embraced by the Irish. It's slowly growing in popularity in New Zealand. However - it seems to be really commercialised here in Ireland.
I'm surprised that Hallmark hasn't released a "Have a Happy Halloween" Card.
The people in my neighbourhood must have money to burn (or at least singe). They have their whole houses decked from rooftop to steps. Spiderwebs, lights, moving skeletons and tombstones in the front lawn. Looks quite cool when you see the local neighbourhood cat (with black fur) lurking around.
Didn't think much of "Wrong Turn 2" to be honest. Felt like the emphasis was built on showing as much gore as possible, and making the next death scene more elaborate than the previous one. No character building whatsoever. Within 30 mins I didn't care for any of the characters at all. I was literally willing the heroes and heroines to their deaths. What a total yawnfest. ;D
Thought "Orphan" was a little more promising, but felt that it fell back into the same American psycho formula used in many previous films of the same genre. Had alot of potential. Isabelle Furhman (Esther) is an amazing actress. Apparently US Adoption Agencies were in an uproar when this film was released.
If I had to recommend a classic horror film... an old school film, I'd recommend Hellraiser and Hellraiser II. Really disturbing films. Quite good production values (esp at the time they were made). The British seem to have a darker concept for Horror. Have a friend in London (Huw-J) who has an animation studio in Westminster. Nearby was a Movie Exhibition where props from Hollywood movies were on display. One of them being the original puzzlebox used in Hellraiser. Huw-J later informed me that he had lunch with Doug Bradley (Pinhead from Hellraiser) and Clive Barker (horror author and writer of Hellraiser). Me?? Envious much?? You betcha!! ;D
If I had to recommend a modern horror movie for Halloween - I'd highly recommend:
"Let The Right One In".
It's a 2008 Swedish film with subtitles. Commercially available for purchase and rental in Ireland. Intelligent and thought provoking horror/drama. One of my top 5 movies this year. I cannot recommend this highly enough. There's nothing like it around. Hollywood could learn a thing or two. The less you know about it before watching it - the more you'll get out of it. Trust me!
Peace out: Darin.

Hola!!
I totally concur with "Drag Me to Hell". It's like the "Evil Dead" series (which scared the pants off of me when I was a teen, but on reflection now see the humour) for the new century.  Had Sam Raimi's well refined trademark mix of horror/humour plastered all over it.
The scene (albeit briefly) with the Goat just had me in stitches. So cute!! ;D
The soundtrack from the Blu-Ray edition of the film just pumps. Will give your surround speakers a proper workout!! Am curious about the unrated edition (which differs slightly from its theatrical release). Might have to scope it.
Peace out: D.

Cant wait to watch two films: Splice and Paranormal activity.. I heard so many good things about them Antonio Hola!! I'm impressed there Spidermato aka Antonio!! Very very impressed!! Beware of the American version of " Let The Right One In".  The subtitles in the US version are completely different to its European release.  So different are the subtitles, that the whole context of many scenes of the film change to their detriment. Along the same lines Spidermato - you might want to check out " Pan's Labyrinth".  2006 Spanish film (with subtitles).  Not a classic horror movie in a sense, but is a very dark fantasy fairytale, set against a civil war background.  Sets, creature effects and cinematography are brilliant!! Won't scare your pants off, but it's a brilliant film. Ironically - I found the Spanish Civil War scenes more disturbing that the fantasy horror elements of the film. Will check out " Paranormal Activity" (managed to get my hands on it) over the next few days. I've also been hearing rave views about the movie " Triangle", that's just been released in movie theatres. Apparently the films got one VERY good twist that you don't see coming. Peace out: D.

Hard to beat Romero's original 'Dawn of the Dead' for shock factor and the original Poltergheist was chilling also

Hiya Darin I saw Let the Right one in last year... and downloaded the subtitles over the internet ( european) ...As I said I was sooo impresed as It really captures what the vampires are.... was so shocked that immediatly I decided to read the book ..which I recommend you to read as you would get a much better understanding of the whole story..the book its much more detailed and provides more insight of Eli's past..I defo Loved it Re: Pan's Labyrinth..Of course I did see the film..I am from Spain and the fact of it being set on the Spanish war was of special interest for me ..so I was curious about what approach G. del Toro would do towards it..I did like the film although wouldnt include it in my favourite's.... I also got Paranormal activity. ( Both Screener and Theater end versions) and I will comment something on it on Tuesday ( but little I dont wanna spoil the film) Curious now about triangle...I will give it a try as per your recommendation... I usually like all the horror movies, so not a big effort for me... Hey Deco, Ambas me parecen muy buenas,... Happy Halloween Antonio

Hola!!
Well - I finally saw "Paranormal Activity", and I have to say... I wasn't impressed.
Will avoid being spoilerific - it's like "Most Haunted" meets "The Blair Witch Project".
If you are the kind of person whom was genuinely scared by "The Blair Witch Project", then this is a horror movie for you.
Feel so much was poorly executed in this movie (but will avoid explaining it for people whom haven't seen it yet).
I would recommend "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" (2005) instead. Events are based on a true story and ending/events are open to intrepretation.
Peace out: Darin.
