MAny of us begin new training regimes at this time of the year, the reason - getting buffed for the beach. A good goal indeed however once the goal is achieved or the holiday is over we let it all fall by the wayside. Having a goal is really important so when your get fit for the beach buzz is over have another one planned for example, I really wan't to get that next grade or maybe I could win that tournament in Sept. if I train hard. Whatever it may be use it to motivate yourself to keep your training levels up. So what's your goal? And how are you setting out to achieve it?

Hi Declan,
I totally agrree that having a goal or objective is critical to success in anything you do. Currently my goal is to try and put on Muscle so that my body weight goes up to between 15 and 15.5 stones. I have set targets each week to achieve in the weights I am lifting using power training and trying to consume adequate nutrition.
I think by setting a goal and setting mini targets on route it allows you stay motivated and focussed as you slowly can see yourself progress.
Thanks Phillip

My current goal is to get through the purple belt grading at the end of the month so i suppose my goal to have reached by the end of the summer is possibly blue belt too, but i have plenty of other things to work on too, especially fitness and i may at some point finally do some sparring, so i've loads to keep me motivated!!

My goal is to break Stephen's ankle again in his first sparring session. Don't judge me, it annoys me how flexible he is! Nah, I've a few goals that I should concentrate on. Blue belt, stretching and flexibility, improve my kicks, lose some fat, put on muscle, improve in sparring (especially cardiovascularly)... too many to be honest! I'll have to prioritize, or see where I can kill two birds with one stone, improving cardio through sparring etc. Any suggestions for a plan?

The best piece of advice I ever received is to make sure your goals are achievable in small stages. Don't rush it. For example if you need to lose 5 kilos you should do so at about a kilo a week for five weeks rather than try to do it in 2 weeks. Same applies to strength and flexibility training. Take your time . See below.
