So, any rules to this forum need to be changed or deleted or added to?

I think all angles are covered here alright. Leaves no room for wind-up merchants!

Yeah, I think the rules are good as they stand, but are non-MAI members allowed join and post? I think it'd be silly to think not but some people might, so perhaps we should put something in the rules saying that all are welcome or something. If they are. Just so potential new members feel welcome.

Do you have a setting switched to not allow ordinary members to start new threads? There's an option to make a poll and can be worked around to make a new thread (I think, I haven't tried it), but I don't see a new thread button.
There's a few ways to look at this. You can allow everyone to start new threads, thereby inviting spambots and advertising, only instructors, stifling easy conversation, or perhaps you could have another user level, where if you know and trust the user you can update their account to allow them to start threads, but if you don't you make sure they have built up trust for a while before doing so. This would require a lot of moderation though.
I used to run a message board and these were all quirks I needed to iron out at some point.
Also, how about a suggestions thread or forum (forum might be better) where people can suggest rules or new forums. A stickied thread with useful links for newcomers is always a good idea too, there'll be important threads every now and again or regularly linked external sites that would be useful to keep track of in one location.

Thanks for the input Donal and welcome to the forum. Anyone can start a new thread. You must be logged in first to see the option at the top right. Feel free to start any of the threads you mentioned.

The Big Bad Admin (we work on a rotation basis) I figured out why I wasn't seeing the new thread button, I have an ad-blocker on my browser and for some reason it was hiding those buttons, stupid technology!
