Question:
Would it be possible to have the syllabus written down for each belt?

Hi Kiefer,
Your sentiment is spot on. To achieve a Black Belt is a wonderful achievement and conveys to everyone that here is someone who got back up when they were down. For me my main reason for not doing the belts is my mindset is completely focussed on practical techniques that would work in a live environment as opposed to syllabus that may have techniques which may not necessarily be the most street wise. I think my perception could be borne out from my old kenpo days where all I did was syllabus but alot of the material was not practical when I thought about it.
Am I been very blinkered and pre-judging the syllabus without trying it?
Thanks Phillip

Question: Would it be possible to have the syllabus written down for each belt? Hey V, if you send an email to info@martialartsinc.com asking for the syllabus they'll send it on to you, or at least the grades you've done and your next one.

Syllabus work is seriously maligned by people who wanna focus on fitness or competition. While some of the syllabus may not suit everyone when applied it does contain an awesome array of tried and tested techniques that you can practice and (to use an americanism out of context) owned. Also if fitness is what you are after try doing the kicking sets one after the other say five times. Or every points technique from orange to brown belt for a round each on the bag etc. etc or here's a good one i've been doing myself grab a resistance band and do kick set 2 with one leg without putting it down and resisting with the band. Just don't plan do do any disco dancing for a few days after lol.

I'm always at my fittest when I'm going for a belt, and Declan is right, where it comes to fitness doing each kicking set or something like that has you in bits.
Although I myself am concentrating on other stuff right now, I will be training for my blue belt over the coming months; getting the techniques right and having that goal does give a great buzz.
