As you all know I'm running the place here in Blackrock. One student in particular of whom I have been teaching a while now and is doing very well is Declan Comerford. Declan has been training with us for the past ? many years and has trained under Rob Kiefer, Declan K, Keith and myself. He is always smiling and never gives up, he always tries to beat everything thing he does. Declan had a class with me yesterday and all we did was boxing. Here is what we did: We started off with Skipping adn straight onto the pads for 4 rounds of hardcore boxing drills. Then onto the body protector for 4 rounds of pads and body punches. After that we did 4 rounds on the bag of just boxing and then into the weights room for 5 stations of (jabs with the weights, shoulders, lateral pulls, squats with the bar and my new balance ball for some balance drills). Then to finish we did 100 ab crunches and not once did Declan give up. I was screaming at him to keep pushing and he did. That is just one session that we did, Declan comes in 3 days a week. He does weights circuits and of course syllabus. Each week I do notice a difference in Declan's fitness. He is back in for more in the morning. Let us know who is training hard these days and what they or you are up too.

Good to hear Declan is training so hard. I am not really back in the swing of things yet and have only been to the dojo on Monday this week but before I went I saw many people training regularly both in Kiefer's classes and in mine. You see there lies the secret, while intensity of training is important, by far the most important is consistency in training. train hard by all means but also train often. Top athletes train as often as three times per day as did I when I was a competitor and still try to. A sample routine would be 40 mins of cardio ie jogging/exercise bike in the morning (before work) Circuit training at lunchtime and class or sparring in the evenings. This obviously isn't practical for everybody but if you have a degree of work flexibility it is possible.

The thing that keeps me motivated is that every training session is different. I never know what to expect and that is why training at MAI is always fun. I have to admit that after the session earlier in the week, I thought I felt a little tired and realised I was when I fell asleep during a conference call. I was still on the call an hour later when I woke up. Thankfully nobody asked me any questions and I wasn't snoring.
Kiefer, I will return to D7 someday to get a few training sessions in and more importantly just to say hello.
