I'm planning on heading over to train with Tom Watson at Greg Jackson's in New Mexico in the New Year. Kong has trained out of there for several years and from what I've heard of the place it sounds like it would be the perfect camp for me to get ready for BAMMA. I thought I'd get over there this year but it just never happened so January 2011 I plan on heading over for 2 weeks. I can't wait as it's one of the best camps in the World with some of the best fighters in the World plus I always like training with Tom.

Hi Rob,
That is brilliant news. Greg jacksons churn out quality all the time so the stuff you will pick up will be fantastic.
The very best of luck with it.
Cheers Phillip

I just heard at the start of this week that the December 4th BAMMA show has been cancelled due to the bad weather. Apparently they had sold a lot of tickets but the airport is closed and the event centre decided against going ahead as well as the police. Thank god my fight was changed to Feb 4th because I would have been rightly upset with it falling through this close to the show. I've been guaranteed that I'll be matched up for the February show and I'm still getting some training done at the moment despite the weather.

It's a really good thing they told you straight out that you would not be fighting in December rather than messing you around and then springing this on you at the last minute! Best of luck training in Jacksons MMA!

They didn't tell me! The deal was that if they guaranteed me to fight for the February show, I wouldn't push for the December show. I could easily have been stuck there. Can't wait for the next BAMMA show because Tom Watson should be fighting at it too and we'll be training up together.

I'm not overdoing it but I am getting one good session done everyday to keep me going through the Christmas break. I'll need to be ready to train 2 or 3 times a day from the first week in January. Thanks to Stephen Large and John Harmon who have both been a great help. We've covered a lot in the past couple of weeks.

I weighed a healthy 215lbs this week. That proves I had a good Christmas! I still kept training going but obviously I didn't watch what I was eating - it wouldn't have felt like Christmas if I had. Thank god I don't drink - I could only imagine what I would weigh now! As I fight at 185, I've got 30lbs to lose but I never walk around at 185 - I'm always in and around 195 or 200 up until weigh in. That means I only really have to get down about 15lbs - as sickining as it might sound to some people, I find it easy to lose 15lbs in a week as I'm so used to controlling my weight.
As for BAMMA - we are waiting for them to officially announce when the next event is on. They initially said it would be the start of February but it now looks like it may be towards the end of February which does suit me better (more training time).
I'm off to Jacksons mma this Friday and looking forward to that as I know the standard there is top class. Anyone read their new books out at the moment: Jacksons mma - the stand up game and the ground game? Both are very good.

3 flights for some reason to get there. Arrived nearly 24 hours after leaving my house. Went straight to bed as you could imagine. On Saturday I went to Jacksons mma gym and guess what? It was closed! so I did some running and stuff myself. I'm on my own this week because I was meant to meet Tom Watson here but he was just called in on short notice for an elbow operation in California - he'd been waiting over a year to get it done. He's arriving next week. Everyone says it's a kip over here but I think it's grand. Better than many places back home ha ha It's a big area and a bit of a walk to the gym so I bought a cheap mountain bike at a flea market and I'm buzzing around on it. I can't believe how cheap the hotel is - about 25 dollars a night! and that includes a light breakfast in the morning. It's better than hotels I've paid 100 sterling for a night! Plus I'm making full use of the pool and jacuzzi here. Seriously! Sunday's always a rest day so I just got myself sorted for the week with food etc. So, today I went to the gym and I did the grappling class. It was a basic enough class and I got a good sweat going. Between this class and the run I did on Saturday, I can feel the higher altitude here. All the big names seem to be in town at the moment because they all have fights coming up. I was going to go sparring at a regular sparring class tonight but I've got pro sparring in the morning at 9.30am so just going to do my own training tonight. I want to be fresh for tomorrow. Hope you're all not missing me too much! Attachments:
