I don't know if anyone has noticed but Sensei Declan has upped his training in the last few weeks because he is in preparation for his 4th Dan Black Belt grade. He can be seen training hard everday at the Dojo. When going for Dans, you have to wait the number of years that your grade equals e.g. 2 years for 2nd Dan, 3 years for third etc. etc.
Declan has put in his 4 years at MAI by constantly improving himself and also his students. 4th Dan is generally an honourary grade. This means that there is no 'test' for 4th Dan. It is simply judged on your time involved in and your contribution to the Martial Arts. Declan has already achieved his 4th Dan but as a man who loves a challenge and who leads by example, Declan will still be performing a very special test.
He must complete the following: 4444 KICKS 4444 PUNCHES 444 PRESS UPS 444 SQUATS 44 ROUNDS OF SPARRING 4 X 44 MINUTE RUNS 4 NEW COMBINATIONS/TECHNIQUES (2 DEFENSIVE, 2 OFFENSIVE)
All this must be completed within the space of 7 days!!! and it will be fully supervised by MAI instructors. He will start on December 15th and once successful, Sensei Kidd will be awarded his 4th Dan at the MAI Christmas Olympics (details on that very soon) on 21st December 2008.
Fair play to Declan for showing us how it's done. He's a great source of motivation for everyone at MAI. Please cheer him on if you see him training.
Stay tuned for an exclusive video interview with Sensei Kidd - coming very soon.

Sensei Kidd,
The most motivated trainer in the buisiness! That looks like some challenge, but knowing you, you will nail it as usual. You are an inspiration to train with, and I personally have learned so much training with you the past few years, and I look forward to many more. Best of luck with it and I look forward to you receiving your 4th Dan at the Christmas, I will be there to congratulate you on it. See you down the Dojo.
4444 KICKS 4444 PUNCHES 444 PRESS UPS 444 SQUATS 44 ROUNDS OF SPARRING 4 X 44 MINUTE RUNS 4 NEW COMBINATIONS/TECHNIQUES (2 DEFENSIVE, 2 OFFENSIVE)
As we say some times Declan, not bad for an owl fella!!!!!!Or a young fella!!!! Christ!!!!!!

Declan is a great example to everyone in the club. He trains hard and works towards his personal goals with excellent dedication. He's got experience and dedication- a lethal combination. This is a grade well deserved. It's also good to see that while he does deserve to be given the belt anyway, he will complete a challenge to earn it that little bit more!
Well done Declan, and good luck training (like you'll need it...).

Training is going well for both myself and Robert it is a good buzz us guys training together again and I don't want to sound like I have a big head but man very few athletes could have done what we have done in the last few weeks. That said I have this kinda sickly fulfilling sensation of....PAIN all over hehe even PAIN must have balance hehe So join in the buzz guys Christmas is coming and let the turkey be the only thing that gets fat. Hi Declan , Well done with the clip . I have seen you training over the past few weeks and by the looks of the type of training you will fly through your 4th Dan challenge . I was only asking you yesterday about why the hand wraps are hanging around . Do you remember what you promised me , you promised to show me some drills , so looking forward to it . Declan is contagious with his training and I wish you all the best with it all even though its no bother to you at all . Well done again I love the clip ...

Declan's 4th Dan Grade starts this week so wish him luck if you see him at the Dojo. We're all rostered out to help him and to spar: Monday is Colm Tuesday - Kiefer Wednesday - Me Thursday - Keith Friday - Louise Saturday- a couple of us
He must complete the following: 4444 KICKS 4444 PUNCHES 444 PRESS UPS 444 SQUATS 44 ROUNDS OF SPARRING 4 X 44 MINUTE RUNS 4 NEW COMBINATIONS/TECHNIQUES (2 DEFENSIVE, 2 OFFENSIVE)
All within 6 days!
This is a hard grade but Declan is going to fly through it - he's been training very hard coming up to it and we've had some rough sessions together in preparation. The very best of luck Declan - Show them all how it's done. See you tomorrow.
