Wow, Rob that training sounds exhausting but awesome. I envy you but know I wouldn't survive more than a day of that pace. Looking forward to having you back to teach us all the things you've learned (and to some Iron Maiden warm-ups)
Can't find head banging smiley...

Jerome you're a head banger! ha ha Yep the strength and conditioning on Wednesday evening was tough but good. Yesterday I attended the bjj/wrestling class. Techniques for an hour and then grappling for half an hour. I was doing really well right up until my knee went pop! I had an old injury which I thought had healed up but I guess it didn't fully. It's defo the ligament in my knee but it's not torn. I reckon it's only strained but the game now is not to tear it. It was hard to walk back to the hotel. So, it was pro sparring today. Obviously I couldn't do the sparring........but I bloody well did anyway! The next time someone in MAI says they can't train because of a cold or a sprained finger etc. I'm gonna kick their ass! It was hard walking to the gym but I just strapped my leg up and got stuck in. There I was with gammy ribs and a busted leg against 4 top guys from one of the best gyms in the World. I had 4 x 5minute fights in a row. My initial plan was just to survive because I didn't want to get hit in the body, I couldn't move great and I couldn't kick - I could only really box. The funny thing is that I actually did very well in all 4 fights! You'll be delighted t hear that GSP is back from Vegas and was sparring today too. As if that wasn't enough, I have another strength and conditioning session later and of course even more tomorrow. This is Jon Chaimbergs place where I'm training too: www.adrenalineperformancecenter.com/I probably sound like a croc but I'm doing really well considering I've been a bit unfortunate with the injuries. Maybe I'm getting too old for this lark? Maybe I'll retire?

Hey Rob,
inspirational stuff and I hate to be the party pooper but I can't help thinking you should take a 24-48hour break from sparring and see how that knee is then. You could still do boxing or techniques in the mean time. I gather the Canadian healthcare service is one of the best in the world, might be worth asking a professional to check it out or see if you can get it scanned in A&E if you still feel it afterwards. If you tear a ligament completely and need surgery you could be out for 6 months after the surgery and still not be quite back to normal afterwards. None of us would want that to see that happen (even though it might even the odds a bit for the rest of us).
Cheers
J

You're right Jerome. I do have to be careful because 6 months out would really suck and it's a common injury for fighters. Unfortunately, they don't have much sympathy here as it's one of the top fighters gyms in the World. I do have to keep training and sparring but once I get through this week I should be able to rest it a bit better when I get home.
Ha ha Declan, I'm a young man ha ha I like the sound of that. I'm not really serious about feeling too old for this. Sure how could I use age as an excuse when I have your example. Much respect always.
So where did I leave off last? Oh yeah, Saturday morning I had a tough strength and conditioning session. Jon Chaimberg put me through my paces and he's always dishing out tests. He gave me a hard one but I got a very good time on it so I was happy. Just when I thought I was finished for the day, he invited me back later in the afternoon for some more training.
When I went back, we covered some wrestling techniques. David 'The Crow' Louiseau was there too and we had a good chat. I wanted to get in to roll with them but I have to pick and choose my training carefully and I decided to save my knee for small gloves sparring on Monday (today).
I had yesterday to rest and in the evening I went to see 'Celtic Woman' ha ha ha a bit of a difference from Iron Maiden. They were good but I could definitely see how they would be more popular outside of Ireland than back at home.
So today was small gloves sparring. I strapped up my knee and I had 4 rounds with 4 good fighters. We started off with one partner holding a single leg against the cage: there are strikes and submissions allowed and it does continue on the ground. Everytime we alternate but it always starts with someone holding your leg while your back is against the cage. I was very happy with my performance.
I'm going to train again later too but maybe just some cardio.
I know it's all about Sparring Challenge Week at home and I'll be glued to the forum to find out how everyone is getting on. Rip it up!

yesterday I did one bjj session and today I had a muay thai session and a strength and conditioning class too. Only 2 more training sessions to go and that's me finished. Bjj tomorrow and pro sparring on Friday. I realise I haven't put up many pictures and that's because 1) I've been too busy training and 2) they wouldn't be mad about me lashing a camera about when they are training. It's a real fighters gym and I'm one of the fighters so not many pics I'm afraid. However, here is one of me and my Muay Thai coach. The Sparring Challenge week sounds whopper. Everyone is doing really well. I'm very impressed. Well done and keep going. See you all very soon. Attachments:

The bjj session yesterday went well and I got to roll with a few fellas after some techniques. Today was the last session - pro sparring. My knee felt a little bit better but I was still careful of it. I got 4 good rounds of sparring in and 2 rounds of grappling. I got to spar and grapple with Tom Murphy again which was cool. He is a strong Heavyweight with an excellent base in wrestling and he was also in TUF2. I am happy with how I did all around. After that I had a 'massage'. To call it a massage is a bit misleading. The fella comes to the gym about once a month (I had a session with him before) and he is more of a bone cruncher, muscle torturing, healer type dude. He reckons my knee was slightly out of place so he yanked on it a bit and it seemed to click back a little. I'll still get it checked when I get back. So that's it. I survived my 4 weeks here. Actually, I more than survived. I did get a couple of injuries but despite them I do feel I did well. I've been here 4 times now and I can feel the benefits. It's not easy but it's great experience. It's one of the best gyms in the World with some of the best fighters in the World. I've met a few guys who I think will be the next big things in mma. I want to thanks the MAI instructors (all of them) for the great job they've done while I was away. I specifically want to thank Louise because she handled everything. When I'm not at MAI, my mind and heart are always there but I didn't have to worry knowing that Louise was at the helm. She did an excellent job, so much so that I might leave her as the big bad boss. I never wanted to be the boss anyway. The black eye that I had at the start of the month has healed up and I kind of missed it so I got another one - see pic. I don't know how I got it as I only noticed it afterwards but there were a few black eyes today after training! Attachments:
