"Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.” Muhammad Ali
If you learned something on the defeat , you dont have to consider at such! Its always something to win, even in defeat!
Proud to be training with you and the other instructors!

Robert did amazing last night, theres no doubt about it that he was winning - his opponent didn't wanna strike just hold on - the man won every exchanged and defended every takedown perfect! Anybody can say they'd love to fight in mma and the ufc and think they would be good at it and blah blah blah but when its crunch time i don't think they would be to keen - its a different type a ball game when you see that cage!, its not easy! That is MMA for ya as we all know it can go either way, unfortunitly this time as Rob said it didn't go his way - but i know Rob a long time and to be honest with most people it would put them down and they would probably give up!! Well the man doesnt know how to give up and i know it will motivate him to work harder and harder and drive forward!! I am very proud of ya Rob and was happy to train up with you for this fight and i learned a lot from you, well done on the training and repping MAI!! Roll on the next one ill still be behind ya no matter what!!

Hi Rob, sorry to hear that, it's tough when you've put so much hard work into it. One thing about combat sports is it's not always the best fighter who wins but the first mistake that loses. Given another chance the result could have been very different. I always found you learn a lot more from a defeat than a victory. We certainly don't think any less of you and we're lucky to have you as a coach and a role model. It takes a lot of courage just to get into the cage nevermind write about it afterwards when it didn't go your way. I know it probably doesn't feel like it right now but you're living the dream most of us will never reach. Glad to see you're already planning your next fight and I have absolutely no doubt you'll bounce back.

I was lucky enough to get over to support Rob at the event on Sunday. It was my first time at one and its an eye opener. You have to give ultimate respect to anyone that gives this a go. I've seen the effort put in by Rob, Kiefer and Mick in training and not many people would be able for that alone never mind competing. Rob you did us proud as always and I know you'll come back stronger.

I was also lucky enough to get over to see the fight. I was my first time at one and I agree fully with stephen, it is a real eye opener. When you see how strong and skilled every Fighter is You have to give the upmost respect to Rob for getting in that cage. You did brilliant Rob and we all enjoyed the weekend. I fear for Robs next opponent as I know that Rob will be back and even hungrier for the win. Also I wann wish Kiefer and Mick all the best for next week.

Thanks everyone for all the overwhelming support I've received. Even if I wanted to sulk I can't because I'm helping Kiefer train in a couple of hours plus I'm covering classes at MAI D15 later. So, see you all later.

Well, it was a super weekend. The fight didn't go Rob's way . Of course I'm gutted for him. You did really well and not only landed a super jab cross. You nearly knocked him out. All the support there from Team Machine was brilliant too. You have alot of supporters Rob and roll on the next one. I know you will be on top form for the next one and just stay positive and keep up the training. It was a great experience once again to be part off. Very proud I am.

Hard luck on the loss Rob. Respect for updating the blog, even though it was with bad news. Shows the strength of character you have, and which will carry you onto a victory in your next fight.

Well it was a super weekend and i thought Rob fought great even though he didn get the win. Rob landed a very quick jab cross and then followed up with a nasty leg kick!! The guy was just gone after that and if u had of seen his eye afterwards u would no what i mean. Robert is a very positive person and he took the loss very well in my opinion, he was more concerned about us sitting at the table than himself which is very admirable. He will be back stronger than ever next for sure so i would hate to be the next fight. It takes an awfull lot of hard work and determination to do what he does so im very proud to have him in my corner this weekend.

Everyone training at MAI believes in you Rob and as everyone is saying, you will come back from this even stronger. Bring it! I also want to wish Michael and Kiefer all the best for this weekend. You're gonna do great. All the hard training and discipline is going to stand to you. And if you need any more inspiration, just think of that Eddie Rockets that you'll be able to get your hands on afterwards! Zoe

Wow Robert, cant believe what Im reading after all the extensive training and effort you have put in, sorry to hear about the loss. But fair play for not burying your head in the sand!
By the sounds of it your opponent had a lot of luck on his side!
I have to commend your attitude, its a great lesson for everyone in the club to know that even after a loss you (and everyone) is capable of putting it behind them and moving on to become much better.

I've had a relaxed enough past 2 weeks since my fight (training wise). I've still trained once a day but not to the same intensity. I'm just back from a weekend away (I love breaks right here in Ireland) and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in again. I'm not great at relaxing but it's very important to recharge the batteries. Getting away for a short break was great but the only problem for me is that when I have a little bit of spare time, I come up with mad ideas and then I get back even busier than ever. I hope you all had a good weekend too.

People must think that I don't get injured because I never talk about my injuries - not because I don't want to tell people - it's because I don't like giving myself excuses and when I ignore the injuries, they generally go away! As you all know, I've trained very hard since the start of the year and my most annoying injury at the moment happened in a stupid way. When working on techniques in Newcastle I caught my finger in my partners shorts. I thought it was simply sprained (training increases the pain threshold) but it's now 4 weeks later and it's still swollen and crooked so I reckon I must have dislocated it. It didn't stop me training or fighting but I decided it was time to get it checked out (plus Louise told me to!). I paid a visit to my very patient doctor today and he sent me to St. Michael's hospital in Dun Laoighaire who were very nice to me and did the x-ray nearly straight away. I'll find out in a week or so. Then I trained in a good class taught by Declan Comerford at MAI Blackrock.

yep the Doc told me today that I've chipped a bit of bone off my finger - that would explain it! He reckons I need surgery to fix it. I told him I'd think about it. I think I'll see how it heals itself first plus I've got training and fighting to do!
